Insight Delivers a Clearer View of the Subsurface

Understanding the subsurface starts with measurements you can trust. Whether you are evaluating a reservoir, conducting a seismic survey or monitoring microseismic subsurface changes, useful downhole data helps guide the decisions that follow.

Insight™ by OptoSeis® from Geospace Technologies combines three-component fiber optic point sensing with configurable deployment options. It captures directional seismic motion at discrete locations, helping geoscientists understand subsurface conditions and how they change over time.

Configure Insight Around Your Project

Different wells and measurement objectives call for different configurations. Insight supports armored wireline deployment, with magnetic and bow-spring clamp options for coupling sensors to the borehole. These choices give customers flexibility when planning their downhole acquisition system.

Sensor station counts and spacing are also configurable, allowing customers to tailor an array to their survey or monitoring objectives. Slimhole sensor shuttles operate in any orientation, supporting use in deviated boreholes.

Keep Electronics Out of the Downhole Environment

Heat and pressure create challenges for extended downhole monitoring. Insight uses a passive, all-optical sensor network with no electronics in the downhole components or telemetry cabling. Its downhole components are rated for years of operation at temperatures up to 150°C.

The laser interrogator and data acquisition equipment remain at the surface, near the borehole or at a remote location depending on the application. This architecture supports continuous, real-time, three-component measurements.

Bring Directional Measurements to Monitoring Projects

Insight supports vertical seismic profiling, microseismic monitoring, check-shot surveys and cross-well tomography. Its directional measurements also support time-lapse analysis of changes in subsurface stress conditions, with potential applications in oil and gas, geothermal energy and carbon storage.

Field testing at the University of Texas Bureau of Economic Geology’s Devine Test Site demonstrated vector fidelity and recorded clear P-wave, S-wave and reflected events using a five-level array with magnetic clamps.

At the CaMI Carbon Injection test site, Insight was deployed on wireline with magnetic clamping to the well casing. Researchers recorded data simultaneously with Insight and a cemented fiber installation, providing a direct comparison in a carbon-storage research setting.

Find the Configuration That Fits

A useful downhole system needs to match both the measurement objective and the deployment requirements. Insight brings configurable arrays, wireline deployment, and a choice of clamp options together with three-component optical sensing.
